Applications

  1. Lithium extraction
Lithium extraction from salt lake brines involves pumping the brine to the surface, where it undergoes a series of evaporation and precipitation steps. Specialized membranes or chemical additives are used to selectively isolate lithium from other dissolved salts. When it comes to recycled batteries, the process starts with dismantling the spent batteries. Chemical leaching techniques are then applied to dissolve lithium, followed by purification methods such as ion - exchange chromatography to obtain high - purity lithium. These extraction methods are crucial for meeting the growing demand for lithium in batteries for electric vehicles and energy storage systems.
  2. Cobalt/nickel recovery
For cobalt and nickel recovery from mining wastewater, chemical precipitation is often the first step. Chemicals are added to the wastewater to form insoluble cobalt and nickel compounds, which are then separated by filtration or sedimentation. In the case of EV battery recycling, the batteries are shredded and processed to release cobalt and nickel. Solvent extraction techniques are then employed to selectively extract these metals from the mixture. The recovered cobalt and nickel can be reused in new battery manufacturing, reducing the environmental impact of mining and ensuring a sustainable supply for the battery industry.
  3. Rubidium/cesium separation
In the nuclear industry, rubidium and cesium separation is a complex process. Nuclear waste materials containing these elements are first treated to separate the radioactive components. Ion - exchange resins are then used to selectively bind rubidium and cesium ions. Through a series of washing and elution steps, the rubidium and cesium are separated from each other and from other contaminants. The separated rubidium and cesium have applications in atomic clocks, medical imaging, and other high - tech fields, and their proper separation is essential for both resource utilization and nuclear waste management.
